Friday Tasting: Chardonnay, Rosé, and Merlot – 3/17/17
March 15, 2017
Join us Friday, March 17th, 5-8pm, for a FREE wine tasting!
This week we will be showing wines from Santa Barbara, Aix-en-Provence, and Napa!
Pence Ranch 2014 Santa Barbara Chardonnay: This Chardonnay is a beautiful example of how California can produce thought-provoking, refined, age-worthy cool climate varietals. This is Pence’s second estate Chardonnay, produced from vines grown in marine sedimentary soils on a north-facing slope, and highly influenced by the cold Pacific winds. 16 months of aging in 25% new French oak along with some serious lashings of acidity gives this wine gorgeous structure and nerve. Pair with sashimi or grilled oysters.
Commanderie de la Bargemone 2016 Coteaux Aix-en-Provence Rosé: Commanderie de la Bargemone was founded by Templar knights in the 13th century. It is home to a proud viticultural tradition, and 160 acres of sustainably-grown vineyards! Their 2016 Coteaux d’Aix-en-Provence rosé is a classic for which the region is known. The blend consists of 50% Grenache, 30% Syrah, 10% Rolle (a.k.a. Vermentino), 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Counoise, and 5% Carignan. Bone dry with explosive aromas of wild strawberry, grapefruit, and canned peaches. Versatile when it comes to pairing with food, but keep it light. Try with soft cheeses, Salade Niçoise, and chicken salads.
Rubissow 2010 Mount Veeder Merlot: Ribissow’s 45-acre vineyard is located on the steep hillsides of Mount Veeder in the Napa Valley. They produce wines both from their estate vineyard as well as other single-vineyard wines, sourced from nearby. Their 2010 Merlot is 100% Mount Veeder fruit, and is at once elegant and complex. Offering abundant aromas of soft cherry, cassis, blackberry, and caramel, followed by a supple palate of cherry and baking spice, and a long, rich finish. Pair with Osso Buco!
