Friday Tasting: Frog’s Leap – 9/1/17
August 30, 2017
Join us Friday, September 1st, 5-8pm, for a FREE wine tasting!
This week we’re paying a visit to Frog’s Leap Winery in Rutherford! Frog’s Leap has been making wine since 1981, using organic fruit since the 1990s, and has been solar-powered since 2004.
Frog’s Leap 2015 Chardonnay: Their Chardonnay is fruit-forward, with refreshing, zesty acidity, and depth. Sur lie aging lends some richness in texture, plus hints of pastry, but balanced by expansive floral aromas. Pair with grilled wild rainbow trout.
Frog’s Leap 2014 Zinfandel: The Zinfandel truly is a frog’s leap from the lily pad of high-octane, over-oaked, flabby Zin. Early harvest, cofermentation with Petite Sirah, Carignan, and Valdigué, and a restrained use of oak make this Zinfandel uniquely structured and food-friendly. It begs for a rack of ribs.
Frog’s Leap 2013 Merlot: Frog’s Leap has been making Merlot since 1990. The vines are dry-farmed and grow in cool clay soil, their roots growing ever deeper in search for water, thereby accessing different nutrients as the plant grows older. The wine offers deep aromas, of sun warmed red fruit, followed by a silky texture and notes of bramble berries. Pair with roast chicken and wild mushrooms.
